Shane McConkey is the greatest skier to have lived thus far.
He completely innovated the sport from what it was 20 years ago to the Free-skiing we see today. He was more than just a skier though, he was a loving
father and had you known him most likely your best friend.
On March 26th, 2009 Shane McConkey died while
skiing in Italy, during a ski-base jump. He had innovated the ski-base jump
where skiers would ski off the highest cliffs, release their skis, and then
pull a parachute and then safely land. Shane had done this dozens of times,
however this particular time he struggled with releasing his skis and by the
time he could open his parachute he was too close to the ground.
In 2013 there will be a 90-minute documentary about Shane
McConkey and his radicle life. I have posted the trailer below.
